Recent and Upcoming Club Events -2011/2012:

July 25 - New Officers & Directors Planning Meeting, 7:00 pm, Cherokee Nation Complex, Tahlequah, OK

August 13 - Club Outing, Call Larry Clark at 918-931-1052 if you would like to fish his area of the Illinois River.  He will put you in at Peavine and you can float to his house or you can put in at his house and float to Combs Bridge and he will pick you up. 

August 29 - Monthly Club Meeting, 7:00 pm, Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, Tahlequah, OK.  Presentation by Jim Boroughs, Oklahoma Wildlife Department, subject will be lower Illinois River plans.  Fly for Contest:  Clouser Minnow, tying instructions can be found at
www.charliesflyboxinc.com click on flybox section and scroll down to Clouser Minnow.  We will be drawing for prizes for those who participated in last year's tying contest.  You will get a drawing ticket for each time that you submitted a fly or served as a judge.  Contest fly for September will be announced and a tying kit of required materials will be provided.

September 17 - Club Outing will be at Town Branch access on the Illinois River below Tahlequah, OK.  The outing will be from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon.  There will be a prize for the largest smallmouth bass caught so bring a tape measure.  Results:  Four members showed up for the outing, Larry Stinnett won the prize for a 13 1/2" smallmouth.  Congratulations, Larry!

September 26 - Monthly Club Meeting, 7:00 pm, Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, Tahlequah, OK.  Presentation for the meeting:  Club member, Richard "Griff" Griffin will demonstrate how to tie an "Attractor", a dry fly for trouts.  Griff will bring everything you need except tools but if you want to bring your own materials, bring moose body or mane, peacock herl, silver badger hackle, silver badger hen hackle, plus some red rod winding thread, if you prefer to work with floss, bring red.  Four-strand is best beause you can separate the strand to get smaller strand.  If there is time, Lisa James will show part of a casting movie.  Fly for Contest:  "Original Sowbug".  Directions can be found at

***October 15 - Club Outing, **Re-scheduled for Monday, October 17**.  Location:  East side of the Ft. Gibson dam.  We will fish from 4:30 pm until dark.  There will be a prize for the largest sand bass caught on a fly.  Jointed minnows and large blue and black poppers have been working.
Results:  Seven members showed up for the outing, Sean Scearce won the prize for a 11" sand bass.  Congratulations, Sean!

October 24 - Smallmouth Rendezvous Committee Meeting, 6:30 pm, Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, Tahlequah, OK.  Feel free to attend the meeting if you are interested.  Monthly Club Meeting, 7:00 pm, Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, Tahlequah, OK.  Presentation for the meeting:  Club member, Lisa James will be the guest speaker and will give a presentation on fly casting.  Fly for Contest:  Perfect Popper for bass as outlined by Ward Bean in the Summer 2010 copy of Fly Tyer magazine.  This article is available at Ward Bean's website, www.warmwaterflytyer.com/documents/Perfect-Poppers-for-the-Topwater-Bite.pdf.  Material packets were given out at the last club meeting.  If you need a packet, please contact Larry Stinnett at 918-931-0949 or email him at l.stinnett@sbcglobal.net.  Please bring suggestions for a fishing outing for November.


November 12 - Club Outing, **Re-scheduled for Saturday, November 19**, 9:00 am until noon.  Location:  Tahlequah Public Library, Carnegie Room, 120 S. College Avenue.  This will be a tying session, bring a vice and materials to show everyone who is interested in the fly that you are tying.  A little information about the fly and how to fish it would be helpful.

November 28 - Club Meeting, 7:00 pm, Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, Tahlequah, OK.  Presentation for the meeting:  Kevin Calhoun of "Just Fishing Guides".  Kevin will be bringing flies and information about fishing the Beaver Tail Water.  Fly for Contest:  Chili Pepper, a trout pattern developed by Tony Spezio.  Material packets were passed out at the last meeting.  If you did not get one, contact Larry Stinnett at 918-931-0949 or email him at L.stinnett@sbcglobal.net.  You can see the fly and get tying instructions at www.warmwaterflytyer.com/patterns3.asp.

December 10 - Club Outing on the lower Illinois River at the Watts property.  8:30 am to noon.  Two club members attended the outing.

January 2 - Club Meeting, 7:00 pm, Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, Tahlequah, OK.  Presentation for the meeting:  Steve Evans, club member and Park Naturalist with Greenleaf State Park, Reptile Show.  Fly for Contest:  John Barr's Meat Whistle.  Material packets were passed out at the last meeting.  Tying instructions can be found at http://tyingnfishingssd.blogspot.com/2011/02/meat-whistle-tying-instructions.html.

January 7 - One-fly Outing, below the dam at Gore (Tenkiller).  We will provide the fly for $5 each.  Fishing will begin at 9:00 am.  Price includes famous chili by the Native Lady Fly Fishers.  Awards for 1st fish, biggest fish and most fish will be given.

2012:
January 30 - Monthly Club Meeting, 7:00 pm, Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, Tahlequah, OK.  Presentation:  Ed Fite, Oklahoma Scenic River Commission.  Ed will be speaking about floating safety.  Fly for Contest:  Bead Head Zebra Midge.  Tying kits were distributed at the January 2nd meeting.  Additional kits are available from Larry Stinnett for $2.00 per kit.  This price includes the $1.00 entry fee (for the drawing ticket).  Contact Larry Stinnet for kits at 918-931-0949 or L.stinnett@sbcglobal.net.

February 6 - SMR Meeting, 6:30 pm, Meeting Location Change:  Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, same room used for club meetings, Tahlequah, OK.  All committee members and club members are encouraged to attend.
